1. Who is responsible
MovieMate is operated by Prabhjot Singh. Privacy questions and access, correction or deletion requests can be sent to prabhjot.singh.pravi@gmail.com.
2. Information MovieMate handles
Account information: your name, email address, authentication provider, account identifier and optional profile photo. Firebase Authentication processes sign-in credentials; MovieMate does not receive or store your raw password.
App information: genre, streaming-service, region and Home preferences; liked movies; Movie Battle activity; playlists; playlist votes; friends and requests; notifications; submitted search history; and the legal-document versions you accepted.
Device information: push-notification tokens and technical request information needed to secure and operate the service. If you opt in to diagnostics, MovieMate also collects crash reports and broad screen or tab usage without sending movie searches, email addresses or playlist names as analytics events.
3. Photos, microphone and speech
MovieMate accesses photos, files or the camera only when you choose a profile photo. The selected photo is uploaded to Firebase Storage and linked to your account.
Voice search uses the microphone and Apple speech-recognition services after you grant permission. Audio or speech data may be processed by Apple depending on the device and recognition mode. MovieMate uses the resulting text to perform your search and does not save the audio recording.
4. Recommendations
When AI recommendations are enabled, MovieMate sends Google Gemini a limited taste profile containing selected genres and a bounded set of liked movie titles, years and genres, together with TMDB candidate movies. It does not include your name, email address or profile photo in that prompt. Recommendation IDs, short reasons and refresh timing may be stored in Firebase.
5. How information is used
MovieMate uses information to authenticate accounts, sync preferences, provide search and recommendations, save and share playlists, manage friends and notifications, prevent abuse, support account deletion, and improve reliability when diagnostics are enabled.
MovieMate does not currently sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
6. Service providers
MovieMate uses Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, database storage, profile photos, server functions, notifications, diagnostics and hosting; Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple for optional authentication; Gemini for AI recommendations; TMDB for movie and cast data and artwork; JustWatch-derived provider availability through TMDB; and YouTube for embedded trailers.
See the Data Sources & Credits page for provider links. These providers may process technical information under their own privacy policies. Data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States and locations where Google, Apple and their service providers operate.
7. Sharing and visibility
Information is shared only as needed to provide the selected feature, comply with law, protect the service, or complete a business transfer subject to equivalent privacy safeguards. Public or shared playlists and profile information are visible to the audiences described in the app. Unlisted web links can be opened by anyone who receives the link.
8. Website information
The MovieMate website can process a movie title search and load movie pages through TMDB. Firebase Hosting and server functions may process IP addresses, request details and security logs. The website stores your legal acknowledgement in your browser so it does not ask on every visit. It does not currently run advertising or behavioural analytics.
Embedded YouTube trailers use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain. YouTube may still receive device and network information when the player loads or you choose playback, subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
9. Retention and deletion
Account data is generally retained while your account is active. Temporary logs, cached catalogue data and provider backups may have shorter or longer technical retention periods. When you delete your account in Settings, MovieMate requests deletion of your authentication account and associated profile, photo, likes, playlists, searches, battle activity, friendships and notifications. Provider backups may take additional time to expire.
10. Your choices
You can change profile information and preferences in Settings, delete searches, manage friends and shared links, and delete your account. You can revoke optional diagnostics in MovieMate Settings and notification, microphone, speech, camera or photo permissions in iOS Settings.
11. Security, children and updates
MovieMate uses access controls and encrypted network connections, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. MovieMate is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.
This policy may be updated as features or legal requirements change. Material changes will be presented for acceptance before continued account use.
